Declaration of Faith
Article 1 – The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God, without error, and as such was originally given by God. It is sufficient as our only infallible source of faith and practice. We deny that other books have the same inspiration as the Bible.
Article 2 – God
We believe in the one and true living God, the creator and sustainer of all things. God is infinite, eternal, does not change, and has revealed himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is the head of the deity, and to God all kingdoms will be delivered. The Son is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament, Jesus Christ, who was born of the Virgin Mary and is therefore the God-Man. He died on the cross to redeem humanity, was raised from death to justify the believer, ascended and is at the right hand of God where he intercedes for us. In time the Father will return in visible and personal form to conquer sin and judge the world. The Holy Spirit is that which was sent from God to convince the world of sin, justice, and judgment, to regenerate and cleanse from sin. The Spirit is the resident guide, teacher, and strengthener of the believer.
Article 3 – Satan and the Sinful Man
We believe that man was innocent, was tempted by Satan, and sinned. Because of this man is born in sin and is by nature a son of wrath. We believe that Satan is a personal devil who with his angels carries out the work of iniquity in this world. Sin is basically rebellion against God, and the final sin is eternal separation from God.
Article 4 – Salvation
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only Savior from sin. He died for our sins on the cross and was raised for our justification. Apart from Jesus Christ there is no salvation. All men are under condemnation because of personal sin, and the escape from condemnation comes only through the justice of Jesus Christ. This justice is known to the believer through grace by faith. The Holy Spirit regenerates the one who makes a commitment to life with Jesus Christ, and this life that begins at regeneration can never be lost.
Article 5 – Resurrection
We believe in the final resurrection of all men, just and unjust. We believe that persons who turn their lives over to Jesus Christ during this life sill be resurrected for eternal life, but those who do not turn over their lives to Jesus Christ in this life will be resurrected for eternal condemnation.
Article 6 – The Church
We believe that a New Testament church is a voluntary association of believers who have been baptized in Christ and have made a covenant to follow together the teachings of the New Testament in doctrine, worship, and practice. We believe that the only two ordinances of the Church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We also believe that only those who have committed themselves to Jesus Christ as Lord are subject to participate in these ordinances, according to the Scriptures. We believe that the biblical form of baptism is immersion. We believe that Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the death of our Lord. The bread symbolizes his body that was broken for us. The cup symbolizes his blood that was shed for us. We believe that the church is a democratic organization directed by two offices: pastors/bishops and deacons.
Article 7 – Civil Government
We believe that God established civil government. We also believe in the complete separation of the state and the church.
Article 8 – Baptist Distinctives
We are Baptists because we believe that to be Baptist represents having certain distinct truths which are not like other denominations. We believe that we cannot compromise these truths without being unfaithful to our Lord and his Word. We seek the cooperation of all those who are committed to Jesus Christ as Lord.
